Embarrassing Bodies

Last night I watched fourteen UK firemen inspect their...let's just say equipment!  Yes, you know what I'm talking about, their junk.  They were actually inspecting their junk right there on my big screen T.V. Fourteen naked firemen with their junk hanging out.

We don't watch German TV in my house.  We get Skye TV from the U.K. and it is ever so entertaining, as there is a show called; Embarrassing Bodies!  I will never forget the first time that I saw this show.  We had lived here for about 6 months and I finally sat down to relax a bit before bed.  Well, I found a medical show and thought okay, this looks interesting.  So there is a lady and she's describing a problem she has, you know...down there.  Up on the table she goes and I keep watching thinking that the camera will continue to stay on her face as she discusses the problem, but oh no, it pans right down to her naked vajayjay!  Yep, you read that right and my mouth fell open!  Seriously they could not possibly have this woman's vajajay on the television!  But they did and I have to confess,  I kept watching!

First of all, who in their right mind let's their junk or their vajayjay be put on national television, to be seen by millions of people.  Secondly...she should have landscaped if she knew it was going to be put on TV and not shown up looking like a Wookie!

But it doesn't stop there!  Embarrassing Bodies shows way too much of everything;  How your hemorrhoids get tied off, and yes they show the surgery.  How to fix a botched boob job, what to do with your over sized scrotum oh yea, and occasionally more normal things like large amounts of wax dripping out of ones ears.

Many of the people in my Expat community can not believe that this show is actually on TV  We are shocked by it's graphic nature.  Janet Jackson can't have a wardrobe slip on American TV, but some random individual can show me their hemorrhoids on Skye TV no problem!  We obviously secretly love that this can happen because more of us watch this crazy show than don't.  You will often even catch us asking "Did you see Embarrassing Bodies last night?  I can't believe that they showed that" and then we giggle like school girls over the previous night's episode.

So, back to the firemen that I watched last night.  Why, you may ask, where they checking their junk?  They were checking for testicular cancer, and thankfully their equipment all checked out.  I guess Embarrassing Bodies is actually bringing awareness to issues that so often aren't discussed because they are taboo, and embarrassing so that is a positive thing.  It's also entertaining all of the Americans that are watching and that too is positive.  So I will be entertained, and most certainly be disgusted as I continue to watch this most interesting of programs.

So, are you secretly watching a "train wreck?"

    1. Oh it sure does! It amazes me that it is on at all hours so kids can watch as well. That's always fun to explain to your kid!

  5. This post made me laugh so hard! When we were living in Scotland last year, we got Skye TV too. I remember watching Embarrassing Bodies for about two seconds and switching the channel. I also remember watching a particular game show when we first arrived.... the host ripped off a woman's dress and she ran around naked the entire segment. She wasn't wearing undergarments and they showed the ENTIRE thing!

    1. Nudity is nothing here and it so funny how shocked I get. I have a friend who asked me why Americans have such issues with nudity and not with violence and I guess she is kind of right??
Glad I could make you laugh!

  6. It's the craziest thing I've ever seen! You can see less in a medical journal. I can't believe the amount of exposure these people allow!!! I'm afraid I can't resist it even though it's difficult to watch. The bad teeth cases really make me squirm! I'd like to see a video of peoples faces as they watch it. I'm usually watching with my hands covering my eyes and just peeking through. Great post!!

  7. OMG that show sounds fabulous! Way better than the Kardashians, which is also a train wreck of a show. Can I find that show online?

    1. It can get pretty gross sometimes so every once in awhile I can't do it! There is a website and I almost put it on the post, but it's pretty bad. Just google Embarrassing Bodies UK and you wil find it.

  8. This was hysterical! I can't believe what they actually show on TV over there. During my first Europe trip awhile ago, I was surprised how much nudity there was on late night TV. Is it sad that I wrote down the show name and made a mental note to watch it when we get to London this summer? :) You're right..it's such a train wreck...it needs to be watched.

    1. It is a train wreck, but a lot of time very informative. Like I said, my friends are amazed at how much violence is on TV in the U.S. and how shocking we find nudity.
Make sure you watch it while you are in London, as it will make you laugh!

  9. Reading things like this just reminds me how uptight America actually is when it comes to nudity. And as you said, they were showing how to check for testicular cancer. That seems pretty darn important in my book! A heck of a lot better than a lot of the stuff that gets pushed on TV anymore.

    1. We are pretty uptight and I have to say it still shocks me when I am at a "spa" and someone drops their towel no problem. I see that my kids don't get as uptight as they used to and I wonder what will happen when we go back to the states. They will be the kids that the mom's don't let other kids play with due to their language and discussions of seeing naked people in Europe.

  12. I live in the states and we get that show here...but I guess they just edit out the important bits. Which...I personally think is stupid. We can't educate people here about their bodies or let women breastfeed in public but it's perfectly ok to walk past billboards every day with half naked underage girls and that's normal. Go figure.

    1. Righ on Dani!! I so agree, the US pushes sex to sell things, but you can't watch something informative?
It is still a bit shocking to watch, but the shock effect gets people watching and talking about medical problems.

  17. I have never had the pleasure? of catching this show...I'm sure it does do a lot of good to see "normal" bodies on TV for once. Not everyone has six pack abs and but that would bounce quarters. I'm intrigued! Thanks for linking up with the MTMmixer this week!
