So I am usually the one talking, or should I say writting, but I need your help!!!
I need a list of top things to see in Ireland and Scottland? Now keep in mind there will be two traveling "little expats" along for the ride so keep it clean.
Please, please, please post your ideas for me!
Go raibh maith agat and Tapadh leat!
We hope to visit there as well and hope to rent a car and just simply DRIVE. :-) Hope you have a wonderful trip!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a car is needed, got some great tips below...take a look
DeleteHello, I lived in Scotland for most of my life so here are some suggestions.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to presume you are taking a car, and that you'll probably visit Edinburgh because most people do. Edinburgh has some good places for kids including the museum of childhood, camera obscura, and the castle. But if you go out to Fife there are other attractions they'd enjoy too - St.Andrews has the aquarium (plus it's a beautiful city), its own castle and cathedral, and it's not far from the Scottish Deer Centre.
Glasgow is a brilliant city over on the west (I lived there for six years) and has great food, shopping and activities, including the science museum, Kelvingrove museum, transport museum, and loads of parks and gardens. A friend also runs tours in and around Glasgow which you might want to check out. He'll have plenty of tips for you: http://www.studenttoursscotland.com/
If you want to go further afield I'd suggest a trip to Oban, where you can get boat trips to Mull and Iona. Or I'd suggest getting a train to Inverness. Inverness itself isn't a great place to visit, although the Trafford Bank Guest House is very nice and there are some great restaurants by the river. However, you can catch the Inverness - Kyle of Lochalsh train (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyle_of_Lochalsh_Line) which is known as one of the most beautiful train rides in the world. You could visit Plockton which is a cute little town with lovely views, nice guesthouses, and boat trips to see seals and wildlife. It's so remote there are no atms so take cash. Or you could visit Kyle of Lochalsh and the Isle of Skye - you'll feel like you're on the edge of the world, but the scenery is stunning.
If you need to know anything else just get in touch!
WOW Thanks so much!!!! Can't wait. Ill let you know how it all goes, and thanks again!
DeleteFirst,Love the name, my daughters name is Deena.
ReplyDeleteI visited Ireland and Scotland last year and fell in LOVE. You are going to love it. Any of the castles are for me a must and they are everywhere. Edinburgh Castle is a Don't miss. Just spending the day or more in Edinburgh there is alot there. Stirling Castle in Scotland is Amazing.
Blarney Castle is beautiful and you could spend a lot of time there.
The Ring of Kerry in Ireland is beautiful and thats a whole day to drive around that and make all the stops.
That's will get you started, how long will you be there? I hope that helps.
Hope you'll visit my blog at memoriesbythemile.com

DeleteAre planning on 10 days total between Ireland and Scotland and am so looking forward to it! Thanks so much for the tips and I love your blog!
Ah wish I had been so I could suggest stuff, but the everywherist has recently been to Ireland and has a ton of detailed posts about it! http://www.everywhereist.com/
ReplyDeleteThanks for the cool website!
DeleteI've only been to Ireland, so I'll comment on that. I agree about just driving around and stopping when you see something interesting. The Irish countryside is good for that. I also enjoyed traditional Irish music. It's fun and lively and the kids might enjoy some impromptu dancing. I also loved the Cliffs of Moher. Have a great time.
ReplyDeleteTeri-Thanks for the comments. I agree, sometimes just going with the flow is better thenk too much planning. I think renting a car and just going may be the answer!
ReplyDeletei am of little to no help! I've never been to Ireland! i hope you find some great places and I can't wait to see your pics of Ireland here on your blog!
ReplyDeleteStopping by from GYB hop!
Trish @ Tales from ...
Thanks for stopping by Trish, I will so post pics!!
DeleteI know nothing about Scotland. But I used to live in Ireland, and I would need more details than that! What part are you going to? I always recommend West Cork and the West Coast, county Clare, Connemara. Stay away from big cities, they have nothing new to offer really. Dublin is quite uninteresting. Go to the countryside, hire a car and drive around, see the real Ireland, not the famous places. I have plenty of names of places to recommend if you're interested.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for you rcomments! We are thinking 5 days in each, hope that will be enough. Any recommendations would be so appreciated!
